Democratic politician Zohran Mamdani has been sworn in as the first Muslim Mayor of New York City.
New York Attorney General Letitia James oversaw his inauguration at midnight, as the city ushered in the new year.
Mamdani’s wife, the artist Rama Duwaji, held out a Quran over which Mamdani took his oath of office.
