The Louisiana First Horizon Foundation Announces Investment in Louisiana Music Museum

LAFAYETTE, La., Nov. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Louisiana First Horizon Foundation today announced a significant investment in the Louisiana Music Museum, a program of the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The Foundation’s support will help preserve Louisiana’s rich musical heritage while advancing the development of a new cultural and educational destination in Downtown Lafayette.

The Foundation’s commitment supports the museum’s ongoing capital campaign and includes naming recognition for the Walk of Legends Plaza, an outdoor entrance space along South Buchanan Street designed to celebrate Louisiana’s musical legends and their contributions to the state’s cultural heritage.

“Louisiana’s music is an important part of our culture and identity, and the Foundation is proud to support a project that will preserve that legacy for future generations,” said Jerry Prejean, Acadiana Market President for First Horizon. “This museum will not only celebrate the artists and traditions that make our state unique, but also create new opportunities for education, tourism and economic growth in the communities we call home.”

Located in the historic 1890 Lafayette Hardware Store in Downtown Lafayette, the museum will bring Louisiana’s musical history to life through immersive exhibits, storytelling and educational experiences. From Cajun and Creole traditions to jazz, blues, zydeco, gospel, funk and more, the museum will highlight the diverse sounds and artists that have shaped the state’s musical identity.

“The Louisiana Music Museum is about more than preserving our musical heritage. It’s about bringing to life the stories, traditions and creativity that have shaped Louisiana’s rich cultural identity,” said Samuel Oliver, Executive Director of Acadiana Center for the Arts. “We hope to create a space that celebrates Louisiana’s remarkable contributions to music while inspiring future generations. We’re grateful to First Horizon for believing in this vision and helping us bring it to life.”

Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the museum slated to open in 2028.
