Echelon Implements Advanced Security Measures to Prevent Any Unwarranted Access To Fitness Equipment Data

NEW YORK, July 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Echelon Fitness, a leading provider of connected fitness equipment and services, today announced the implementation of comprehensive security enhancements across its product portfolio incorporating jailbreak detection mechanisms into the equipment firmware to identify compromised devices, revoke certificates, and prevent certain features from functioning.

As part of our commitment to protecting our members and our intellectual property, Echelon has implemented enhanced security measures to prevent unauthorized access to our equipment. Recently, we identified a third-party application called QZ, developed by an individual in Italy, Robert Viola, which attempts to bypass Echelon’s fitness ecosystem and connect Echelon products directly to his non-approved third-party app to Echelon Equipment. Mr. Viola has been charging users $6.99 for access—profiting from unauthorized, reverse-engineered connections to Echelon equipment. This activity violates our terms of service and raises serious concerns regarding device stability, and user safety.

Taking a move out of Apple’s own playbook, regarding how to block jailbroken devices to preserve the integrity of its equipment, Echelon is taking strong measures to protect our machines from exploitation by unauthorized third parties. We are actively reviewing legal action under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and other applicable laws. Additionally, any customer found to be using third-party applications like QZ to access Echelon equipment will have their warranties voided, as it violates our terms of use and compromises the secure operation of our products.

“There are a few bad actors in the global marketplace who are constantly trying to shortcut the investments made by Echelon and other American companies—through fraud, copying, and stealing. This is yet another example of why U.S. businesses must aggressively defend their intellectual property from unauthorized use by foreign individuals and entities. Protecting American innovation has been a key focus of the Trump administration, and it’s more important than ever for companies like Echelon to take a stand,” said Lou Lentine, CEO and Founder of Echelon Fitness.

Echelon is proud to introduce a new Authorized Partnership Program for companies seeking to connect to our fitness equipment through secure, approved channels. This initiative is designed to support innovation while maintaining the integrity, safety, and performance standards our members expect. Partners who join the program will receive access to official APIs, developer support, and integration guidelines to ensure seamless connectivity with Echelon devices. By working with authorized partners, we foster a trusted ecosystem that delivers enhanced functionality and value to users—without compromising security or violating intellectual property rights.

Echelon equipment seamlessly connects to a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and the integrated screens on Echelon machines, providing users with flexibility in how they access their fitness data and content across their preferred devices.

Echelon continues to offer flexible options to meet diverse user needs and preferences:
**Freestyle Mode** – Available at no charge for users who prefer to exercise independently without a subscription. This mode requires minimal WIFI connectivity for secure sign-in authentication, allowing users to access their equipment’s core functionality while maintaining the enhanced security protections.
**Premium Streaming Plans** – For users who want access to live and on-demand fitness classes, Echelon offers subscription plans starting as low as $19.99 per month. Plans can provide full access to Echelon’s library of instructor-led workouts, instructor-led scenic rides, Echelon Worlds gamification platform, entertainment, apps, and personalized training programs, all delivered through the company’s secure, encrypted streaming platform.

Echelon continues to invest in cybersecurity research and development to stay ahead of emerging threats. The company works with leading security firms and follows responsible disclosure practices to identify and address potential vulnerabilities before they impact users.
