DNA recovered from glove found near Guthrie home matches suspect: FBI

A glove containing DNA that was found more than three kilometres from Nancy Guthrie’s home appears to match those worn by the masked person outside her front door the night she vanished, according to the FBI.

The FBI said the glove was found in a field near the side of a road. It was sent off for DNA testing, and while it received preliminary results on Saturday, it is still awaiting official confirmation.

About 16 gloves were found in various spots near Guthrie’s home. The FBI said most of them were searchers’ gloves that had been discarded.

The 84-year-old-Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, was last seen alive at her Tucson, Ariz., home on Jan. 31. She was reported missing the next day.

Authorities say her blood was found on the front porch. Ransom notes were reportedly sent to news outlets, but two deadlines to pay the ransom have since passed.

Discovery comes after masked person images emerge

The discovery of DNA in the glove comes days after authorities released surveillance videos of the masked person outside the missing woman’s front door. A Google Nest camera recorded footage of someone whom the FBI call a suspect.

The FBI described the person as standing 5-foot-9 with a medium build, who was wearing a ski mask, long pants, jacket and gloves. The suspect was also carrying a 25-litre “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.

Guthrie has been missing for about two weeks. Authorities are concerned about the woman’s health because she needs vital daily medicine.

Guthrie is said to have a pacemaker and has dealt with high blood pressure and heart issues.
