Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce handed new responsibilities to investment banker Mark Mulroney, naming the rainmaker head of the bank’s office of the CEO, and announced a long goodbye for dealmaker Roman Dubczak.
Last year, CIBC chief executive officer Harry Culham created a team of senior executives to deepen client relationships and connect the bank’s businesses. Mr. Mulroney and Mr. Dubczak, a 34-year veteran of the investment bank, are part of the group, known inside the bank as the OCEO.
Former federal cabinet minister Lisa Raitt, a vice chair at the bank, and CIBC vice chair Stephen Forbes are also in the OCEO.
On Monday, Mr. Culham announced Mr. Mulroney, who joined the bank as global vice chair in November after more than seven years as vice chair, global banking and markets at Bank of Nova Scotia, would also become head of the OCEO effective immediately.
In an internal announcement reviewed by The Globe and Mail, Mr. Culham said: “With Mark’s leadership and the expertise in our OCEO, we will continue to bring distinctive senior-level strategic perspectives to our clients.”
Mr. Dubczak, former head of global investment banking at CIBC, will move to the role of senior strategic advisor to the OCEO on Nov. 1, and serve as an ambassador for the bank through 2027.
“In his new role, Roman will continue to provide strategic counsel on priority initiatives,” Mr. Culham said.
