Canada’s Bianca Andreescu has been eliminated from the U.S. Open after falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Tamara Zidansek in the final round of qualifying on Friday.
Andreescu, who hails from Mississauga, Ont., fired seven aces across the two hour 44 minute match but struggled on net points, winning just 10 of the 21 available.
Slovenia’s Zidansek converted 1-of-2 break points in the third set to take the victory and advance to the main draw.
The match started Thursday but had to be suspended due to rain. Andreescu, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, was up 2-0 at the time.
Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ont., also had his qualifying match against Australia’s Tristan Schoolkate pushed to Friday.
The first round of the tournament is set to begin on Sunday.
