Alouettes sign GM Danny Maciocia, head coach Jason Maas to extensions

The Montreal Alouettes signed general manager Danny Maciocia and head coach Jason Maas to two-year contract extensions Tuesday.

Maciocia is now under contract with the Alouettes through the 2031 season. Maas’s deal takes him through the 2030 campaign.

Maciocia returned as Alouettes GM in January 2020. He hired Maas as head coach in December, 2022.

Montreal won the 2023 Grey Cup and reached last year’s final. The Alouettes currently have the CFL’s best record at 9-2.

Montreal has a 42-22-1 regular-season record with Maciocia and Maas at the helm.

With one more win, Maas would tie Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy (43) for fourth spot in franchise history.

“Jason and I have focused on building a solid foundation, and we’re now reaping the rewards of our efforts,” Maciocia said in a statement. “The next few years are shaping up to be very exciting for our football team, the city of Montreal and the entire province of Quebec.

“I could not have achieved this success without Jason’s contribution and leadership, as well as that of our football operations staff. Jason has surrounded himself with great football minds while successfully establishing strong chemistry and a strong work ethic in our locker room.

“He deserves the credit. I am very proud of him.”

Montreal hosts the B.C. Lions (6-5) on Friday night.

The Alouettes also signed American quarterback Caleb Evans to a one-year contract. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Evans spent three seasons in Montreal after joining the team in February 2023.

Evans appeared in 36 games with the Alouettes before having his ’25 campaign cut short by a season-ending knee injury last August.
