The consortium’s 2026 theme celebrates the art, history, landscape, and traditions that have shaped one of Italy’s most iconic wine regions
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Chianti Classico is more than a wine. It is the product of a place where wine, art, history, landscape and tradition have been intertwined for centuries. This year, the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico celebrates those connections through its campaign, “Chianti Classico is Culture.”
The 2026 theme explores the many dimensions of Chianti Classico through a series of evocative messages, including “Chianti Classico is Art” and “Chianti Classico is Heritage.” Paired with imagery of Italian paintings, sculpture, and classical statuary, each expression draws a connection between the wines of the Black Rooster and the broader cultural heritage of the place they call home.
At the heart of the campaign is the idea that understanding Chianti Classico means understanding more than what is in the glass. Here, vineyards sit alongside olive groves and forests, medieval villages and historic estates. Art and architecture tell stories spanning centuries, while generations of growers and winemakers have built upon the knowledge of those who came before them. Chianti Classico is at once wine, agriculture, craftsmanship, history, and culture — a living expression of its Tuscan origins.
And while deeply rooted in history, Chianti Classico continues to evolve. Producers across the denomination are pairing generations of winemaking knowledge with an ongoing focus on quality, environmental stewardship, and an increasingly detailed understanding of the individual character of the territory.
That relationship with the land is reflected in how the region farms today. Recent data from the Consorzio shows that 55% of Chianti Classico’s total vineyard area is managed according to organic farming standards, while 64% of producers surveyed use no chemical fertilizers, insecticides or fungicides. With approximately two-thirds of the territory covered by woodland and vineyards occupying just one-tenth of its total area, protecting the surrounding ecosystem is closely connected to preserving the identity and future of Chianti Classico.
The 2026 harvest is quickly approaching, with producers across Chianti Classico reporting positive conditions and expectations for a promising vintage. “Like any winegrower, I prefer to pass judgment on the vintage only after all the grapes have been brought into the cellar,” declares Giovanni Manetti, President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico. “At the moment, the Chianti Classico appellation is seeing a vintage of excellent quality with yields in line with the average, although in some areas the harvest may begin a few days early—between seven and ten days ahead of schedule. Cool nights ensure aromatic complexity, allowing Sangiovese to express its full, extraordinary potential. The developing richness of polyphenols already points to a dense, silky tannic structure. In short, this year Sangiovese finds itself in ideal conditions to reflect all the nuances of our terroir.”
The campaign also comes as Chianti Classico continues to build its presence on the international stage. “Despite the challenges facing the global wine sector, the continued strength of the U.S. market is a testament to the enduring appeal of Chianti Classico,” Manetti says. He continues, “The United States remains the leading market for Black Rooster wines, representing 37% of sales, while total sales of Chianti Classico through August are in line with the same period last year. This resilience reflects the exceptional quality and distinctive character of our wines, which continue to be appreciated and sought after by consumers around the world.” Through international tastings, educational initiatives and events including the annual Grand Tasting in New York, the Consorzio is bringing the wines — and the culture surrounding them — to audiences around the world.
“Chianti Classico is Culture” celebrates a territory whose identity cannot be separated into a single story. Chianti Classico is art, heritage, history, landscape, and craftsmanship, and at the center of it all is the wine — carrying the culture of its place with it in every vintage.
