At a game between the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions football teams in Orchard Park, New York, both the American and Canadian national anthems played.
The Bills chose to honour their Canadian fans amid rising tensions between the US and Canada.
President Donald Trump, who is currently locked in an escalating tariff tussle with Ottawa, has, on a number of occasions, declared his ambition to make Canada the 51st American state. He blames Canada for taking advantage of the US through unfair trade practices and trade deficits.
