Grimes Defends Selena Gomez Against “Disturbing” Online Comments About Her Appearance
Selena Gomez is killing ’em with kindness.
The “Sunset Blvd” singer couldn’t help but to laugh when someone asked her, “How do you shave your mustache?”
In fact, “I was like, ‘I totally get it,'” Selena said while giggling in a video shared on her Instagram Story Dec. 16. “It’s actually not! It’s my melasma. I take care of it and I treat it, but yeah no, it’s there.”
Melasma is a common skin condition that causes dark, discolored patches due to overproduction of melanin, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The discoloration is often triggered by sun exposure, which the 33-year-old said was her case.
“I actually have melasma and a pimple,” she noted in her video, zooming the camera close to her upper lip. “It’s actually from the sun, so you’ll have to obviously wear sunscreen and be careful.”
And it’s admittedly taken Selena a long time to be able to brush off her skin problems with a laugh. As she explained to Vogue in 2024, “I have grown so much over the years, and at this point in my life, I am really comfortable in my own skin.”
